Scott:

I found your blog via the Yammer Developer's Network. We have a lot in common. I lead collaboration and enterprise 2.0 projects for a Fortune 100 company. In addition, I live in Minnesota and run Grandma's Marathon and ski the Birkie. You would enjoy my Blag Flag Marathon video ... it was hot up in Duluth this past June.

There are a lot of ECM players out there who deliver great ECM platforms for small investments, stop looking at just the main players....

The problems ECM has with WCM is the design of the website, DDA compliance and flexibility. The concept of providing business owners with the ability to update their website is easy, and is done very well through a number of WCM and/or ECM solutions. The problems start to arise when you try to hand design features to the business (such as colour schemes, graphics, page layout). This simply doesnt work well and should be left in the hands of web designers, pure and simple.

ECM / WCM should be used only to take control of the actual content of the website (not the pages in which the content is displayed). This is the domain of web designers and developers, and it should always be that way (if you want your website to work well, look good and be compliant). If ECM players embrace thiis way of looking at managing web content, then there will be no issues all round....
